    Description

    U.S. Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Washington, D.C. Souvenir Card. B 9. 13th International Stamp Exhibition - INTERPEX 1971, March 12, 1971, New York City, New York. Reproduces a block of four stamps - Scott #1193 4c Project Mercury (1962).  The background displays enlargements of three "astronautical-theme stamp issues" - #1331-32 5c Space Walking Astronaut and 5c Gemini 4 capsule twin issue (1967), #1371 6c Apollo 8 (1969), and C76 10c Man on the Moon airmail stamp (1969). The Project Mercury stamp "...with no advance notice of its contemplated issuance, was printed by the Bureau under the most confidential security conditions and was released simultaneously with the announcement of the eventful completion of Astronaut John Glenn's historic flight." Card is has first day of show cancellation of Scott #C76 10c First Man on the Moon airmail stamp, March 12, 1971, INTERPEX International Stamp Show Station, New York, New York.  Card measures 10 1/2" x 8 1/2".
