Giambologna became well known for a fine sense of action and movement, and a refined, differentiated surface finish. Among his most famous works are the Mercury (of which he did four versions), He is depicted wearing a winged petasus on his head. He carries the caduceus in his hand, the staff given to him by Apollo that has come to symbolizes the practice of medicine. The god raises one arm to point heavenwards, in a gesture borrowed from the repertory of classical rhetoric that is characteristic of Giambologna's maniera. The quality of this refined art is rarely found in re-casted bronzes. This sculpture was cast using the “Lost Wax Method” and is mounted on a gorgeous heavy marble base with a delightful bronze trim around the base. This sculpture is signed
